888 "Supercar"

May 21, 2009 12:33 by Marty

Alot of people that I know refer to todays V8 Supercars series as the V8 Taxi's which I think is a bit harsh, but today I saw something to back that up. At lunchtime my office building had a visit from a real life V8 Supercar, that's right Craig Lowndes' 888 Falcon!

I found it funny how they drove it to the location in the rain and managed to get it up the very same driveway which prevents me from getting my own wannabe V8 Supercar into the carpark. This thing was a bog stock auto 6 XR Falcon — standard height, bars and interior topped off with some crappy gutter rashed mags and a chrome exhaust tip.

Maybe it's the reccession or they just think people are getting stupider, but last year's mockup which I spotted on the way to the Bathurst 1000 was far more beleivable. That one almost had me convinced that it was the real deal until I looked under the rear end and saw the stock IRS setup. That thing was like 80mm from the ground, full cage, dipstick on the bonnet, Harrop race brakes and 17x10s all round! That mockup was worth drooling over. I only took a photo of the thing today so that we can all have a laugh at it.

Nice try and thanks for the free sausage sandwich but it's going to take more than a stock Ford with some poorly applied stickers on it to get me to switch phone providers!
